This is how the butterfly dance of the bugaku repertoire must have looked like. The Noh version is much less ‘realistic’: apart from the headpiece, the costume does not necessarily remind of the wings of a butterfly. I wonder if, in the past, the dance of the Noh Kocho was influenced by the bugaku version.
